Classic ChickLit: A Cliched, Corny Story The writing is a bit flighty and way too breathy, but this book by Dorothea Benton Frank is classic BeachLit/ChickLit. If you’re in the mood for something easy and light, you’ll likely enjoy it.Jackie, a nurse who has recently returned from serving in the war in Afghanistan, is a new widow. Great beach read! I have loved the personal touches of Ms Frank’s novels over the years; indeed, I can read one of her novels and feel like I’m a part of the story by clearly seeing what her characters describe, smelling what they cook, etc. This book, to me, resonates even closer to home because of the military theme. I realize that Jackie’s military status is not the main thrust of this novel, but it is a major part of Jackie’s story and so it colors her actions, her viewpoints, and her emotional state. I…
Loving and Emotional I love DBF. She can write a good southern novel, and transform you in the moment. The story is told by Jackie and Annie. A mother and daughter that are complete opposites of each other. Jackie has recently became a widow and trying to raise her son Charlie. Charlie is not dealing with his Dad’s death well at all.
